Madrid 2012
Ryder Cup Bid

For two years, The Sports Consultancy provided turn-key management of all aspects of Madrid's bid for the 2018 Ryder Cup managing the stakeholders group made up of central, regional and local government and led by Real Federation Espana de Golf.

As part of our overall management of this bid, our involvement started with restructuring an existing bid and setting new bid strategy. We then coordinated across local, regional and central government to deliver the bid to the European Tour and managed everything from highly effective communications to final contract negotiations.

European Basketball Championships
2015 & 2017, Event Feasibility Study

British Basketball appointed members of our team to undertake a feasibility study into the potential of hosting the men’s European Championship Finals in 2015 or 2017.

The study examined the costs and benefits of hosting the event, the associated economic impact and the physical capacity and location of venues throughout the UK.

Isle of Man TT Branded World Series,
Event Feasibility Study

The Isle of Man Government commissioned The Sports Consultancy to conduct a detailed feasibility study into the creation of a World Series of affiliated TT races events.

The Government is seeking to use a TT World Series as a platform to promote the event and to raise the profile of the Isle of Man on the international stage.

London 2012
Olympic Bid

Working with the British Olympic Association to secure political and financial support from central and city government for the successful London 2012 Olympic Games bid.

We worked with the Department of Culture Media and Sport, the London Assembly and the Greater London Authority, presenting the feasibility study to the chancellor, ministers and parliament securing over £30 million of bid funding and essential government bidding guarantees. We wrote, negotiated and agreed the stakeholder agreement and established the bid company and their respective terms of reference.

TEAMORIGIN

Providing commercial legal services for all of TEAMORIGIN's legal needs in the America's Cup, the TP52 circuit and the 1851 Cup.

Our work:
TSC provided commercial and legal counsel to TEAMORIGIN from 2006 - 2011 throughout the 32nd America's Cup challenger series and match, throughout the 33rd America's Cup until TEAMORIGIN's decision to withdraw from the Cup.

TSC provided commercial legal services for all areas of the team's operations, both commercial and competitive including trademark registration, sponsorship, employment, office and base leasing, asset acquisition, competition and regulatory work, service agreements, equipment supply and dispute resolution.

FEI

Providing commercial legal support towards securing host cities for the FEI World Equestrian Games 2018 and the FEI European Championships 2015 and the appointment of the platform providers for FEI TV and the federation's TV production and distribution partners.

Our work:
TSC provided a team of lawyers to support the International Equestrian Federation towards securing the venues for the FEI European Championships 2015 in the Olympic disciplines and the FEI World Equestrian Games 2018, by producing all tender documentation and consulting to produce all event technical and commercial legal documentation. TSC also provided legal support to the federation in running a competitive tender and drafting, negotiating and finalising the agreements to secure the platform provider for FEI TV, and the federation's TV production and distribution partners.

Using our knowledge of equestrian sport, TV production, media distribution platforms and event bidding we have built a strong and growing relationship across a number of areas of commercial legal activity for the world governing body of equestrian sport.

Sportsworld

The Sports Consultancy has acted for Sportsworld in negotiating and securing ticketing, tour and hospitality arrangements in relation to 4 Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup 2010 and the past 3 Wimbledon Championships.

Laureus

Since its inception in 2001, Laureus has established itself as a unique and inspiring sports endeavour celebrating the power of sport to inspire and change lives through the work of the Laureus World Sports Awards, Laureus Academy and Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

The Sports Consultancy has provided management consultancy and business planning for Laureus and in 2009 negotiated the organisation's largest ever sponsorship with Vodafone.

Volvo
Ocean Race

Since 2003 we have provided commercial consultancy and legal services to the Volvo Ocean Race.

In addition to negotiating the event's move to Alicante, Spain with a new head quarters, funding and a unique tax scheme, in 2009 we were called upon to manage the world's largest ever host city tender involving over 80 cities in the first stages, 36 in active negotiation and ultimately host nation contracts with 12 cities making up the 2011-12 event and increasing revenues by over 500%. 

Having worked extensively with the management team to rationalize event rights and requirements, we were appointed again in 2012 to run a host city tender process to secure the hosts for the 12th and 13th editions of the Volvo Ocean Race.

FEI World Equestrian Games 2018
and European Championships 2015

The rapid growth of the FEI's marquee events has demanded a new approach to event tendering. Having provided commercial consultancy in relation to broadcast and sponsorship since 2006, the FEI turned to us to enhance their host city tendering for the World Equestrian Games and European Championships events.

Working with the FEI's senior management team, we are reviewing and restructuring the international governing body's relationship with its host cities for these major events and creating a new structure for their host city tendering for both events.

AMD

We were appointed by AMD's EMEA Marketing Communications team to create tools, which would increase the use of AMD's global sponsorship of Scuderia Ferrari by national EMEA markets.

We created a campaign theme, Powering Performance, which we used to create a sponsorship tool kit and a series of marketing materials. Following distribution to markets, sponsorship workshops were conducted to ensure marketing and sales teams fully understood the opportunity,

Virgin

We were appointed by Virgin Enterprise Ltd to develop their commercial agreement with the London Marathon during a period of exclusive negotiation, providing industry insight, implementation initiatives and commercial legal advice.

We aided Virgin in securing a £17 millions 5 year agreement with the London Marathon.

World Athletics Championships
2015 & 2017, Event Feasibility Study
& Bid Support

Members of our team were appointed by Visit London, UK Athletics, UK Sport, the Olympic Park Legacy Company, the DCMS and the Greater London Authority to complete a feasibility study for London hosting the 2015 or 2017 World Athletics Championships in the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

The work we completed on the budget for hosting the championships and the assessment of economic impact was central to the successful bid to host the championships.

English Institute of Sport 'House of Sport',
Feasibility Study

Members of our team were appointed by Sheffield International Venues, Sheffield City Council and Creative Sheffield to conduct an initial feasibility study into the ‘House of Sport’ concept.

With a world class range of sporting and elite athlete support facilities within Sheffield, the concept (potentially comprising athlete accommodation and secondary office provision for NGBs) was developed as ‘the missing link’ to complete the world class portfolio of facilities and athlete / elite sport experience ahead of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games.

Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre,
Feasibility Study

Members of our team completed an initial feasibility study for St Albans District Council to investigate the replacement of the ageing facilities at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre.

The work involved completing a needs assessment to determine the facility mix, a site options appraisal to consider alternative locations and an options appraisal to identify the preferred option.

Following identification of the preferred option we worked with architects to design, capital costs and a detailed business plan to identify the funding requirements.

& Leisure Management Procurement

We were appointed by the States of Guernsey to undertake a Soft Market Testing Exercise and a Management Options Appraisal to help establish the market appetite for its leisure portfolio and advise on the likely financial benefits of outsourcing.

Rugby World Cup 2015,
Event Feasibility Study

Members of our team were appointed by Event Scotland, in association with the Scottish Executive and Scottish Rugby Union, to carry out a feasibility study for Scotland hosting the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The project involved determining whether it was financially viable for Scotland to bid for hosting for the event and under what structure they should do so. The findings of the study resulted in Event Scotland deciding not to bid for the event.

UBS

Appointed by UBS, sponsor of Team Alinghi - the Swiss Defender of the 33rd Amercia's Cup in Valencia to provide strategic counsel and 360 implementation.

We created an award winning campaign, which fully integrated every facet of the programme across both internal and external marketing areas. Post campaign analysis met every objective measured across exposure, hospitality and sales.
