UK Sport is working with The National Ice Skating Association (NISA) to bring one of the biggest and most prestigious skating events to the UK for the first time in almost 20 years. Having pitched for the 2016 edition, NISA has now submitted a bid, in partnership with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, EventScotland and UK Sport, to host the 2017 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Glasgow. The event would be part of UK Sport’s £27 million National Lottery funded Gold Event Series, which aims to create a Stage to Inspire by bringing 70 of the world’s top sporting events to the UK by 2019, reaching around 2.5 million spectators.

The Sports Consultancy delivered the initial feasibility study into hosting the championships, as well as managing the venue selection exercise, which identified Glasgow as the preferred partner for the event.
