New £33m Sports Centre for Strathclyde University Plans have been approved for Strathclyde University to create the new £33m Sport, Health and Wellbeing building in Cathedral Street, Glasgow. The Sports Consultancy worked with the University’s project team to complete a thorough options appraisal and a detailed financial business case for the project, helping it secure funding from the University’s capital funding programme. The new facility will enable the university’s sports clubs to train and compete at the highest levels, as well as providing recreation facilities. It will include 2 x 4 court sport halls, a 160 station fitness suite, 4 x physiotherapy treatment rooms, conditioning room, dance studio, 2 x squash courts a 6 lane 25m swimming pool, café and 3 interlinked multipurpose teaching rooms. Construction is due to begin in November, with the building expected to open in the summer of 2018. Prof Sir Jim McDonald, university principal, said: “At Strathclyde, our students and staff are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are creating a first-class facility that will provide health and wellbeing benefits for the university community, as well as improving participation in sport more generally. This new facility is the latest part of our campus transformation, helping us to continue to attract and retain the very best local and global talent.
