The Sports Consultancy appointed to undertake a feasibility study for a new leisure facility in Pontefract Park The Sports Consultancy, in conjunction with GT Architects and Walker Sime, have been appointed by Wakefield Council to undertake an independent study, which will robustly assess all aspects of the proposal to build a new leisure centre in the Ponefract Park. The feasibility study will look at the impact on the local community and environment, identify the type of facilities people want and need to use, examine travelling times, transport links and accessibility and clarify the resources needed to deliver the project. Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: “The feasibility study is key to helping us understand how we can meet the leisure needs of residents in the Five Towns, now and in the future. “Input from the local community will be essential to the study and the team will be talking to schools and user groups to find out what type of facility is needed. “As soon as initial designs are drawn up we will make them available so that everyone can have a look and share their views with us.” Wakefield Council and The Sports Consultancy will also be working closely with local sports clubs, Sport England and other sport national governing bodies to ensure the proposals maximise sport, leisure and health and wellbeing opportunities. The feasibility study is expected to be concluded by Autumn and a report will be presented to Wakefield Council’s Cabinet later in the year.
