The Sports Consultancy is delighted to be supporting St Albans City & District Council in hosting a special showcase day at the recently opened Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre on Thursday 7 February 2013.

The recently completed, £24m centre, was designed by S&P Architects and built by Willmott Dixon. The project was delivered on time and within budget and sets a new standard in the quality of community leisure provision in the UK.

Swimming facilities include a ten lane 25 metre pool, a training pool and a confidence splash pool for toddlers. Other facilities include an indoor climbing wall, 4 court sports hall, 2 studios, a 200 station health and fitness suite (including spinning studio and a youth gym), a high quality spa with treatment rooms and a bistro.

Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre is the first step of a long-term strategy by the Council to rationalise and improve facilities across the district. A number of other projects including a new leisure facility at London Colney and a regional tennis and judo centre at Batchwood, St Albans, have both recently been recommended for planning permission.

The Westminster Lodge Showcase Day will provide an opportunity to tour the new facility. It will provide an insight into the process the Council has followed to enable it to rationalise and transform its ageing leisure stock during a period of significant budget cuts. There will be a panel discussion and question and answer session on rationalisation and facility development in relation to St Albans District but also the wider national context. The panel will include the team that delivered the project including representatives from St Albans City & District Council, Willmott Dixon, Deloitte Real Estate, S&P Architects, SLM and The Sports Consultancy.

The day will be of interest to any local authority, or organisation in the sector, which is considering how to retain and improve facility stock which is reaching the end of its designed life.

The Sports Consultancy is supporting the Council with the delivery of the day. If you would like to express an interest in attending please email your name, position and contact details to tom@thesportsconsultancy.com or call Tom Pinnington at The Sports Consultancy on 020 7323 0007.
