Following the success of the 2012 aquatics programme, Cornel Marculescu, Executive Director of FINA, has said he would be keen for the World Swimming Championships to come to London.
“The Aquatics Centre was consistently full, demonstrating that aquatics is one of Britain’s favourite sports,” he said.
The Olympics also gave us the opportunity to show the world the beauty and diversity of aquatics in all of our five disciplines [swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming]. Of course [we would like to return to London].”
London is currently an official candidate city for the 2016 European Swimming Championships, with a decision due soon.
