Work has begun on new £13.6 million leisure centre for East Cambridgeshire which is set to open to the public next year. The leisure centre, will include an eight-lane 25m swimming pool, a learner pool with moveable floor, a 120-station gym, two activity studios and a four-court sports hall, as well as an outdoor 3G artificial grass pitch. The Sports Consultancy worked closely with the Council on the project since its inception. We completed an Indoor Facility Strategy for the District, the initial Options Appraisal and the detailed Feasibility Study to define the preferred option for the new leisure centre. We then went on to assist the Council with its successful application to Sport England for £1.5m funding and also procured the new operator for the centre, generating a significant positive management fee, which is crucial to the funding and affordability of the project. Chairman of East Cambridgeshire District Council’s commercial services committee, Councillor Richard Hobbs, said: “This is a poignant step in the development of the leisure centre and I am thrilled that work is now underway.” For further information please contact tom@thesportsconsultancy.com
